Gluvit Waterproof Epoxy SealerProtecting your hulls and decks has never been easier with Gluvit Waterproof Epoxy Sealer. Made to protect fiberglass wood, aluminum, and steel it provides an extra barrier and protective coating. Wear and tear on boats can cause cracks, pinholes, and leaky seams, Gluvit waterproof sealer can bridge and seal cracks and fill in minor pinholes. Its long lasting life allows it to penetrate into cracks for added strength. The sealer helps to minimize corrosion and water absorption.Deteriorated wood on decks and hulls can be brought back to life with Gluvit Waterproof Epoxy Sealer. Applying sealer protects planks and sheeting from water damage and marine parasites. Minimize galvanic corrosion and seal rivets on aluminum hulls with this waterproof sealer and protect jet skis, and other fiberglass boats from the abrasive beaches and rocks and prevents blistering and corrosion. In order to maximize protection with Gluvit sealer it must be painted after it has cured. This will provide maximum UV protection. Once ready to paint, lightly sand where sealer was applied. Then paint with any pigmented epoxy, urethane, latex or alkyd based paint. Gluvit Epoxy Waterproof Sealer is available in quart which covers 25-35 square feet or gallon size which covers 100-130 square feet.Specifications:How to Apply Gluvit Epoxy SealerDeteriorated wood can be renewed with a few strokes of Gluvit. It penetrates and strengthens stringers, decking and molding. Gluvit's excellent impact and abrasion resistant barrier coat minimizes fiberglass blistering and corrosion. Seals leaky aluminum seams, rivets, and leaks around cabins or decks. Remove contaminants* such as grease, oil, dirt with lacquer thinner or strong detergent. Sand to bare surface with 80-100 grit sand paper to ensure adhesion. Remove all grit and dust after sanding with another rinse of solvent. *When cleaning aluminum surfaces an Aluminum Prep Wash can aid in scarifying the surface.; Fill deep holes (more than 1/8" in depth) with Marine-Tex Epoxy Putty before applying Gluvit.; Pre-proportion sufficient resins and hardener in the correct ratio to cover the areas to be sealed and/or repaired. Gluvit can be broken up into separate batches if desired. Mix ratio by volume for batches is 5 parts resin to 1 part hardener. If you will be using the entire kit at once, add the entire contents of the hardener into the resin and thoroughly mix contents for 3-4 minutes to insure complete mixing. Be sure you can use the entire kit within the pot life or working time period.; Apply Gluvit with a brush or roller at 6-8 mils film thickness. Lightly drag a foam brush in long even strokes over the freshly applied coating to smooth the surface. After the first coat cures for 12 hours at 72F, a second coat can be applied for optimum performance.; Gluvit hardens overnight. Allow 48 hours at 72F for maximum strength. Working time and cure will be longer at lower temperatures, shorter at higher temperatures. Note: If ambient temperature is below 50F, pre-condition Gluvit and work area to at least 55F.; Application Information: Gluvit offers an open time of about 60 minutes at 72F to provide adequate working time for larger jobs, such as an entire deck or hull.; Gluvit cures in 24-30 hours at 72F. Apply heat to speed cure if necessary or if the temperature will be below 55F.; Gluvit may be applied over mildly damp (not wet) surfaces. Do not apply Gluvit when rain is pending.; In the uncured state, Gluvit will absorb rain water, turn milky white, and take longer to cure - but it will harden in time.; To overcoat Gluvit after cure, wash the surface with warm soapy water or a dilute vinegar solution and a fine abrasive pad, or wet sand, then dry with clean towels or cloth. Frost-sand surface with 80-100 grit sand paper to remove any gloss. Gluvit can be overcoated with any marine paint or other coating compatible with epoxies.; Polyester resins, like gel-coat, do not adhere well to epoxy material.; All Gluvit containers are slack-filled (they are not full.) Materials are packaged in our facility by weight. This leaves enough room for a power mixer to blend the resin and hardener entirely.Gluvit Epoxy Fequently Asked QuestionsWhy is the resin can of Gluvit only partially full? Materials are packaged in our facility by weight (ex. 2 lb or 8 lb.) All Gluvit containers are slack-filled (they are not full.) This leaves enough room for a power mixer to blend the resin and hardener entirely in one can.Can I use a pigment in the Gluvit? Yes, any type of epoxy-friendly pigment is recommended. It will be tinted, no dark color will be achieved. (Fibre-Glass Evercoat's pigments work well.) Do not use more than 5% pigment per total volume of epoxy. What is the proper procedure for overcoating Gluvit? To overcoat Gluvit after cure, wash the surface with warm soapy water or a dilute vinegar solution and a fine abrasive pad, or wet sand, then dry with clean towels or cloth. Frost-sand surface with 80-100 grit sand paper to remove any gloss. What type of paint should be used to overcoat Gluvit? Gluvit can be overcoated with any marine paint or other coating compatible with epoxies. Check with your paint supplier and make sure the coating you are using is epoxy friendly and suitable for your application. What will happen if the Gluvit is not overcoated? UV rays can deteriorate the epoxy, it will chalk (get cloudy) and possible crack over time. If there is no exposure to sunlight (ex. bottom of boat), there is no problem. What is Gluvit's pot life? Depends on temperature 60 minutes at 72F.Can Gluvit be thinned? Yes, Toluene, Xylene, Xylol, or Lacquer thinner in small amounts (no more than 5%.)Can I use Gluvit to coat the inside of my gas tank? No, Gluvit is not resistant to gasoline.Gluvit can be used to protect the outside of an aluminum gas tank. Gluvit is an excellent barrier coat system that encapsulates the metal to protect against corrosion and pitting. Can I renew and seal soft or rotted wood with Gluvit? Dry rot is a common problem on boats with wood cabins. Gluvit can help to restore damaged wood and seal it against further deterioration. Gluvit has a long "open time" that allows it to penetrate deep into porous or rotted wood. Drill small holes in the damaged area and fill with Gluvit. It will be absorbed by the wood and its hard protective coating will seal against further attack by vermin or weathering. Gluvit's protective waterproof coating strengthens stringers, decking and molding, and it flexes with hull movements to maintain effective bridging. It also seals cracks, chips, pinholes, leaky seams and rivets. What color is Gluvit? Gluvit is similar to amber in color. What is the consistency of Gluvit? Gluvit is the consistency of paint. It is easily applied with a brush or roller. Is Gluvit rated for potable water repairs? No, Gluvit is not rated for potable water repairs. Can I use Gluvit on concrete? Yes, Gluvit performs well on properly prepared concrete. Make sure the concrete is fully cured and free of any contaminates including dust, dirt, grease, oil, etc. Apply the Gluvit with a roller or brush and allow to fully cure. Any areas exposed to direct sunlight should be overcoated with an epoxy friendly coating after full cure. How do I remove excess Gluvit off of tools? If Gluvit is still wet, clean tools with soap and warm water. Rubbing alcohol can also be used. Be sure to wash down all tools and surfaces before the epoxy cures.*** ONLY SHIPS WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES ***
